The outstanding 17th Sacred Music Festival in Patmos, with Artistic Director Alkis Baltas, is hosted from Wednesday, August 29 to Monday, September 3, 2018, at the open theater in front of the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse, with admittance free of charge.

The Patmos Sacred Music Festival stands out for its unique character, by combining art with spirituality as ideally suited to the island of the Revelation, the «Jerusalem» of the Aegean.

It stands out because its musical events are held in a sacred area declared UNESCO World Heritage Site: The Cave where John wrote the Book of Revelation.

It stands out because lots of spectators attend the events, coming from every corner of the earth, loyal to the annual artistic meeting, which makes for yet another reason the holy island a pole of attraction for the global community.

A special feature of this year’s festival is the different musical interest of each concert and the participation of large choral ensembles from the U.K (English Chamber Choir) and Russia (Moscow Youth Chamber Choir), which will perform exquisite choral works.

The Patmos Festival Orchestra, along with a ten-member choir, will perform the work «The Representation of Soul and Body» by Emilio Cavalieri, the first oratorio ever written. There is also an especially interesting concert including spirituals and contemporary foreign and Greek songs with religious content.

Within the framework of the Festival, there is a special event for children from five years of age and above, in which, a well known fable by Aesop will be presented with music, narration, images and songs. This educational event will take place at the «Patmion» Cultural Center.
